Rural Development
Dr. Samant has been running the Jayprakash Narayan Leprosy Hospital in Vasai for many years now. It is a charitable hospital, providing medical facilities, free of cost, to the needy and destitute people in the areas surrounding Vasai.
Raychem RPG has initiated a Fish Farming Project jointly with the neighboring areas in the Hospital ,under which the Hospital will train tribal people from the neighboring areas in the cultivation of a species of fish called 'Tilapia' in an artificial pond.
The Hospital has provided land for creating the pond that will measure about 40,000sq.ft. Once it is complete, rainwater will start accumulating in the pond, creating a natural eco-system foe aqua-culture sustenance.
After the training, the tribal people will be encouraged to create smaller ponds in their own backyards for farming Tilapia, and the necessary guidance and support will be given to them.
Mr. Chandrashekhar Bhandsavale, an eminent aqua-culture expert who has implemented similar projects in Neral, is supervising and guiding the projects.
The objective of this is to provide the tribal people living in and around Vasai with an alternative source of earning that will require minimum attention, and that can be done along with their other regular work. It will make them self-sufficient and help improve the quality of life.
This project will also help in rainwater conservations, and the fish cultivated in the pond will be a source of income to the Hospital.
Yet another Samaj Mitra Project with multiple benefits!!.
